Washable paint for kitchens and bathrooms: what works in Gwalior homes
Kitchens: grease, smoke and heat
Above and around the gas stove, walls collect a thin layer of oil and soot. On a flat matt paint this sticks and leaves a dark patch that does not come off. Washable emulsions have a tighter surface film, so most marks wipe away with a soft cloth and mild soap. Berger Easy Clean Fresh is another option in the same family.
Wash old grease off thoroughly before repainting. Paint does not stick well to an oily wall.
Bathrooms: damp first, colour later
Peeling paint in a bathroom almost always means water is getting into the wall, from a leaking pipe, a failed floor joint or the shower area. Painting over it will not last. Find and fix the leak, let the wall dry, then use a damp-resistant coating on the affected area before the finish coat.
Ventilation helps the paint last
