Paint shop business
Stock planning for a paint shop: what to keep and how much

Group your products
- Fast movers: economy interior and exterior emulsions, wall putty, cement primer, ceiling white
- Steady sellers: enamels in common shades, metal primer, thinner, brushes and rollers
- Seasonal: roof waterproofing before the monsoon, festive premium emulsions
- On demand: luxury finishes, textures, special primers, ordered when a customer confirms
Use tinting to keep stock lean
A tinting machine lets you keep a few base paints in common pack sizes and make any shade on the spot. That avoids shelves of slow-moving ready shades. Keep enough of each base and colourant so you never turn a customer away.

Review and re-order
- Note what sold each week, by product and pack size.
- Re-order fast movers on your regular delivery day.
- Move slow items to the front of the counter or offer them to painters.
- Plan larger orders two to three weeks before Diwali and before April.
What to have ready before you call us
- Shop name, town and full address
- Counter space and a stable power supply for a tinting machine
- The paint and hardware brands you sell today
- A rough idea of who buys from you: homes, painters, contractors, institutions
- GST registration and the usual business documents
- The person who will handle orders and payments
The selling calendar for a paint counter in this region
Paint sales in the Gwalior region follow the seasons. October and November are the busiest months, driven by Diwali repainting. The wedding season in winter brings another round of house and shop painting. After the rabi harvest in March and April, many rural families start building, which lifts putty, primer, cement paint and economy emulsions. From April to June, roof waterproofing and heat-reflective coatings sell ahead of the monsoon, and July to September is the quietest period for exterior work. Plan stock and staff around this cycle rather than ordering the same quantity every month.
