How to apply
Application steps
- Sand the wood and remove dust
- Treat against termites if needed and fill dents
- Stain if you want to change the tone
- Apply sealer and top coats of the chosen finish
Gwalior's dry summers pull moisture out of wood, which causes cracks. A good finish on all faces of doors and windows, including the edges, slows this down.
Choosing
Where Rainbow fits in the range
Rainbow is in the premium level of Berger’s wood finishes. Lower-cost options in the same category include Woodkeeper Ezee Hand Polish, Woodkeeper Wood Stainer and Woodkeeper Fill-O-Dent. Similar choices at this level are Imperia Epoxy Block Primer, Melamine 24 Carat and Woodkeeper 1K PU. For a step up, look at Imperia & Imperia Grande Clear, Imperia & Imperia Grande Whites and Imperia Gold. The right choice depends on the surface, the look you want and how long you want it to last, so ask us if you are unsure.
Before you buy
- Decide between a clear finish that shows the grain and an opaque colour
- Check whether the wood is indoors or exposed to sun and rain
- Check for termite signs before finishing
- Ask whether the system is single-pack or needs mixing
Mistakes to avoid
- Finishing wood that has not dried after cutting
- Skipping sanding between coats
- Applying PU in dusty conditions
- Leaving the edges and back of doors unsealed
Quantity
How much Rainbow will you need?
Wood finish quantity depends on the area of wood and the number of coats in the system. Count the doors, windows and furniture pieces, or send photos and sizes, and we will suggest the quantity of each layer.
