How to apply
Application steps
- Prepare and prime the wall as for normal painting
- Apply the base coat recommended for the texture
- Apply the texture with the tool or method for that design
- Seal or top coat where the system requires it
Texture work needs a skilled applicator. Ask us to see finished samples before you choose, and plan exterior textures in dry months so they cure properly.
Choosing
Where Ruff & Tuff Scratch fits in the range
Ruff & Tuff Scratch is in the premium level of Berger’s texture & designer finishes. Similar choices at this level are Ruff & Tuff Decora Dholpur Stone, Ruff & Tuff Decora Rollercast and Ruff & Tuff Decora Rollercoat. For a step up, look at Silk GlamArt Metallica, Silk GlamArt Metallica for Designs and Silk GlamArt Non Metallic. The right choice depends on the surface, the look you want and how long you want it to last, so ask us if you are unsure.
Before you buy
- See a finished sample before you decide
- Confirm that your applicator has done this texture before
- Decide the area: one feature wall or a full facade
- Plan exterior textures in dry weather so they cure fully
Mistakes to avoid
- Applying texture over loose or damp plaster
- Mixing batches of different shades on one wall
- Stopping a wall halfway, which leaves visible joins
- Skipping the base coat the system needs
Quantity
How much Ruff & Tuff Scratch will you need?
Texture consumption depends on the pattern and the tool, so it is estimated per square foot of wall rather than in litres for coats. Tell us the wall size and the design you like, and we will give a quantity along with the base coat needed.
