Painting tools in Gwalior: sandpaper, brushes and rollers
Good tools make the paint go further and the finish look better. Along with Berger paints, our Gwalior store keeps the tools painters and homeowners need for preparation and application.

Sandpaper (emery paper)
Coarse grades such as No. 80 for removing loose paint and rough spots, finer grades such as No. 100 to 220 for sanding putty and primer smooth.
Brushes
Wall brushes for corners and edges, flat brushes for enamel on doors and grills, and smaller brushes for detail work.
Rollers
Rollers for emulsion on walls and ceilings, and texture rollers for designer finishes. Use a tray to load paint evenly.
Putty blades and scrapers
Scrapers for old paint, and putty knives and blades for applying and levelling putty.
Masking tape and covers
Tape for clean lines at edges and switchboards, and plastic covers for floors and furniture.
Thinners and cleaners
The right thinner for enamels and wood finishes, and cleaning supplies for tools after the job.
Tips
Getting more from your tools
- Wash rollers and water-based brushes straight after use. Dried emulsion ruins the nap.
- Keep separate brushes for enamel and emulsion.
- Sand between putty coats with fine sandpaper and wipe the dust before priming.
- For a smooth wall, use a short-nap roller. Longer nap holds more paint for rough surfaces.
Which sandpaper grade for which step
| Step | Typical grade | Why |
|---|---|---|
| Removing loose paint and rough spots | No. 80 | Coarse grit cuts fast through old paint and bumps |
| Sanding putty between coats | No. 100 to 120 | Levels the putty without deep scratches |
| Final sanding before primer or top coat | No. 180 to 220 | Gives a smooth surface for an even finish |
| Light sanding between enamel or wood coats | No. 220 or finer | Removes dust nibs and helps the next coat stick |
A basic kit for repainting one room
- Two or three sheets each of No. 80 and No. 180 sandpaper
- A scraper and a putty blade
- One 4 inch wall brush and one 2 inch brush for edges
- A 9 inch roller with a tray and an extension handle for the ceiling
- A roll of masking tape and a plastic sheet for the floor
- Old cloth and a bucket of water for cleaning as you go
Bring the room size when you buy paint and we will pack the tools with it, so the painter has everything on the first day.
Brush or roller?
Rollers are faster on large flat walls and ceilings and leave a more even emulsion finish. Brushes are better for corners, edges, grills and woodwork. Most jobs need both: a brush to cut in around edges and a roller for the open wall. For enamels on doors, a good flat brush gives a smoother result than a roller on small panels.
Do you sell painting tools separately?
Yes. You can buy tools on their own or along with paint at our Gwalior store.
Which roller is best for emulsion?
A medium-nap roller suits most plastered walls. For very smooth putty walls, a shorter nap gives a finer finish.
What is emery paper?
Emery paper, also called sandpaper, is used to sand walls, putty, wood and metal before painting.
